Provenance:
Purchased in 2003 from Mr. Lenny Schas, founder of Museum of China Cultural Arts, Beijing

Xiong Lijun burst onto the contemporary Chinese painting scene in the early 2000's with large, dynamic canvases showing young people in dramatic poses and exaggerated expressions. Influenced by fashion photography and the graphic arts of cartoons and advertising, Xiong painted enthusiastic and energetic youth in vibrant colors, conveying the wish for openness and abundance that are aspired to by the 1980's generation of China's urban youth that grew up among new-found consumerism and personal wealth.

Born in 1975 in the city of Chongqing, Xiong Lijun obtained her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Fine Art from the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute. Her paintings have been exhibited in China, the United States, France, Australia, and Korea.
