Kakemono, ink and color on silk. Japan, 1st half 19th centuryThe Kakemono exemplifies Baiitsu's mastery brush focusing two black birds hovering in the center. The scene is set in front of a waterfall, tastefully combined with few bamboo growing from above and a rustic pine. What splendid effect is achieved by this thoroughly rendered realistic composition! Pure poetry! Signed on the lower left Baiitsu is a Nanga artist (Chinese style), who lived in Nagoya and Kyoto. He gained status for his delicate painting style and was later ennobled Samurai. Signed on the lower left BAIITSU RYO 梅逸亮, and red seals RYOSHIN 亮親 BAIITSU 梅逸.
