Lot 5149: Yamamoto Baiitsu (1783-1856) Summer Flowers

Hanging scroll, ink and color on silk; depicting peonies, roses, day lilies, pinks, dandelions and bamboo, growing in profusion around a sculptural garden rock, with various finely rendered insects half-hidden among the foliage; signed Baitsu sha with seals Ryo no ink and Baiitsu; together with a wooden tomobako, an inscription to the lid interior dating the painting to Baiitsu’s later years, after the Tempo and Koka eras (1830-1848).
