GREKOFF, ELIE. 1914-1985. Sketch, gouache on paper, 160 x 200 mm, 1952, inscribed at foot, laid down on board, matted and framed.

Inscribed to the French-American writer Marguerite Yourcenar by her artist friend Grekoff, who designed the decor and costumes for her play Electra: "en souvenir amicale de nos recontres sympathiques, cette image de L'Enfer de Patrice de la Tour du Pin. E. Grekoff, 7-1952." La Tour du Pin's poem was published in 1949 with lithographs by Grekoff. The artist had studied under Léger, but this drawing shows the influence of Cocteau.
