Provenance: Collection of Mr and Mrs Chen. The Chens arrived in London in the late 1960s to set up as successful restaurateurs and were passionate collectors of Chinese art, mainly acquiring pieces within London since that date. They moved in circles of artists and connoisseurs and counted among their close friends the artists Fei Chengwu (1911 – 2000) and Zhang Qianying (1909 – 2003).
