Naval forces were paramount in the discovery of new worlds and in maintaining conquered lands. Over time, navies became essential for warfare and for colonization due to the increased speed at which boats could travel compared to foot soldiers. Their equipment was unique to their needs and including cannons, muskets, swords, uniforms, and boots. Often times, antique naval uniforms are adorned with items from the lands the sailor has seen.
