Royal Crown Derby China

Royal Crown Derby is arguably the oldest remaining English porcelain manufacturer, which is disputed by Royal Worcester. Known for its high quality bone china, they have been in production since approximately 1750. It was originally called "Derby Porcelain" until 1773 when it was renamed "Crown Derby.”

After going through several owners, the factory was shut down temporarily in 1848. A group of former employees kept the Derby name alive by setting up a small factory on King Street, continuing to use the same molds, patterns, and trademarks. In 1877, a new factory was built, marking the beginning of Royal Crown Derby's modern period. Their romantic and lavish designs fit with the demand of the period and they grew immensely popular.

In 1890, Queen Victoria appointed Crown Derby the Royal Warrant and granted them the title "The Royal Crown Derby Porcelain Company." In 1964 the company was acquired by S. Pearson and Son, later becoming part of the Allied English Potteries Group.
