Vosne-Romanee Burgundy

Growing only the Pinot Noir grape, Vosne-Romanée is a very exclusive, highly sought after wine region in northeastern France. It is located in Burgundy’s Cote de Nuits region and near the town of Beaune, and among the most popular producers here are Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, La Tâche and La Grande Rue.

A whopping number of Premier Cru vineyards, 15, are here, a testament to the quality coming out of the vineyards. People who fall in love with these wines typically do so for the elegance and depth.

The appellation is tightly controlled, with four of the six Grand Crus part of a monopoly. Yet there is some flexibility in the make-up of each wine, per the government’s regulations. It’s okay to add Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc, and Pinot Gris to the wines so long as they are not more than 15 percent. In spring of 2015, a lot of Vosne Romanée, Les Beaux Monts 1993 Domaine Leroy sold for nearly $12,000 at auction.
