Richard Corbould (British, 1757-1831) oil painting. English 18th century oval landscape painting. Lake scene with figures. Signed, bottom left R. Corbould, dated 1776. Oil on wood panel. Extensive restoration and inpainting. Painting measures 13.8 inches high x 18.6 inches wide. Antique wood frame measures 18.6 inches high x 28.3 inches wide. From Wikipedia: Richard Corbould (1757 -1831 in London) was an English artist, sometimes misspelt "Corbold". He was a painter, in oil and watercolour, of portraits, landscape, and occasionally history; of porcelain, and miniatures on ivory, and enamels; and was furthermore an important illustrator of books renowned for his Napoleonic sketches of Ships, and a follower of the old masters. From 1777 to 1811 he was a constant contributor to the Royal Academy. He died at Highgate, north London, in 1831. The painter and illustrator Richard Corbould, second generation in a dynasty of five generations of painters and illustrators, was born in London. His illustrative work is typically vignette-style, and seems not just pre-Victorian but pre-19th century in style.
