Sir Roger de Grey was a British landscape painter. He served as President of the Royal Academy from 1984 until 1993. This painting is one of a series of eight on the subject of the relationship between outside and inside. Each was painted at the artist's studio in Kent during the winter of 1976-1977. One painting from this series is in the collection of Tate Britain, London.
