F. / 1831' en bas au centre Diamètre : 12 cm (4,72 in.) Portrait of Etienne Dumont, after David d'Angers, oil on cardboard, signed and dated, by Fr. Ferrière Commentaire : Le miniaturiste François Ferrière représenta à plusieurs reprises le magistrat genevois Etienne Dumont qui vécut à Saint-Pétersbourg, Paris et Londres avant de revenir s'établir à Genève en 1814. Une miniature sur ivoire et son dessin préparatoire sont en effet conservés dans les collections muséales de la capitale suisse et peuvent être datées du début des années 1820 (1). Notre huile sur carton, datée de 1831 et exécutée en trompe l'œil d'après un médaillon en bronze de David d'Angers, constitue certainement un hommage à la mémoire d'Etienne Dumont, décédé à Milan en 1829. Une huile sur carton similaire à l'exception de la signature et de la date en partie inférieure a été présentée sur le marché (vente anonyme ; Paris, Tajan, 23 juin 2009, n° 57, adjugée 11.000€). 1.
