      JOHANN GEORGE PAUL FISCHER (1786-1875) Uniformes de la cavalerie impériale française en 1808 Dessin à la plume et à l’aquarelle, signé en bas à gauche, daté « 1814 ». 21 x 29 cm. Encadré sous verre. 55 x 47 cm. Historique : Cette aquarelle reprend des unités et uniformes représentés dans des gravures allemandes de Geisllser et autres datées effectivement de 1808, mais dans une exécution infiniment plus fine et artistique. Sont représentés : des officiers de lanciers polonais (petite et grande tenue), un mamelouk, un chasseur à cheval de dos, cuirassiers du 5e régiment à cheval, à pied et en tenue d’écurie, des gendarmes et un hussard du 3e régiment (Chamborant). On retrouve une aquarelle similaire dans les collections royales britanniques (n° 16450), datée de 1812 Biographie : Johann Georg Paul Fischer est un artiste né à Hanovre en 1786. Il arrive à Londres en 1810 où il passa le reste de sa vie y mourant en 1875. Il y était connu comme peintre de miniatures. Il a travaillé pour la famille royale. La « Royal Collection » possède de lui une miniature de la reine Victoria datée de 1819 mais aussi une série de 20 aquarelles représentant les différentes armées européennes entre 1812 et 1817.

      JOHANN GEORGE PAUL FISCHER (1786-1875) Uniformes du 3e régiment d’infanterie de ligne (Portugal) et cavalerie légère espagnole Villa Villiosa (Espagne) Dessin à la plume et à l’aquarelle, signé en bas à droite, daté « 1814 ». 21 x 29 cm. Encadré sous verre. 55 x 47 cm. Historique : Cette œuvre présente un important ensemble de fantassins, officiers et tambour du 3e régiment de la légion portugaise. Contrairement à l’aquarelle précédente qui est clairement inspirée de gravures contemporaines, celle-ci semble bien plus originale donnant en particulier les uniformes de deux officiers supérieurs et d’un tambour dont nous ne connaissons pas d’autres représentations aussi précises. À droite et en arrière-plan la cavalerie espagnole du régiment Villa-Villiosa qui elle par contre a été reproduite dans des estampes allemandes des années 1808-1810. On retrouve une aquarelle similaire dans les collections royales britanniques (n° 16467), datée de 1812
