6 Segments Berlin Wall Painted by Ben Wargin & Fred Hahn

      Est: €12,000 - €15,600

Ferroconcrete, painted Germany, 1990 Painting by Fred Hahn (b. 1956) – German artist Within the framework of Ben Wargin’s ensemble ‘Den Opfern von Gewalt und Unterdrückung’ Signed lower right ‘FRED HAHN’ Original location: Schiffbauerdamm/corner of Reinhardtstraße, Berlin Mitte Height: c. 3.60 m; length: c. 7.20 m Good condition Expressive black and white painting of ghostly appearing figures with hortatory character It is now already a quarter of a century ago that on November 9, 1989, the Wall, which until then divided Berlin and Germany for almost 30 years, fell and then gave freedom to millions of people. Subsequently, the hated building was degraded piece by piece and the city grew together again in most areas. Some segments of the Wall were early decorated by artists to bear witness as a memorial against dictatorship and the oppression of the events of the time and the value of freedom, in that sense for example the ‘East Side Gallery’ at the Spreeufer. But also other parts of the Wall were saved by private buyers from destruction. So also the present six segments that were designed by Fred Hahn within the framework of Ben Wargin’s ensemble ‘Den Opfern von Gewalt und Unterdrückung’ in 1990. The original location of the segments was at Schiffbauerdamm/corner of Reinhardtstraße in Berlin Mitte opposite of the Reichstag. They are designed in an expressive black and white painting. The monumental ensemble is in this form not only an impressive piece of art but also in this size a piece of world history to touch. Condition: The six ferroconcrete segments are in original condition. The segments are approximately 3.60 m in height and have got a total length of approximately 7.20 m. (afa) Shipping costs excl. statutory VAT and plus 2,5% (+VAT) shipping insurance. Auctionata charges the resale rights tax pursuant to Section 26 of the German Copyright Act (UrhG) towards the buyer in case of the sale of an original work of art or photography prior to 70 years having lapsed since the death of their creator. Therefore, Auctionata charges when purchasing a good – if a protection as an original work of art or photography is given – starting from a hammer price of EUR 400 an additional amount, which is calculated according to Section 26 (2) German Copyright Act (UrhG) and which does not exceed the amount of EUR 12,500.
