      Charles Borromee A. Houry (1823-1898) - Woman in the Kitchen, Oil on Canvas. Signed. Framed. 40x32cm. Frame: 53x45cm. Minor old restoration. Charles Houry was a Belgian painter born in Soignies in Belgium in 1823 and died in Paris in 1898. Painter of genre scenes, portraits; Painter on porcelain. A naturalized Frenchman, he was a pupil of Leon Cogniet at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, while working at the Sevres factory as a porcelain painter. From 1850, he exhibited at the Salon de Paris. Auguste-Prosper Bernard was his pupil.

Szene aus dem alten Testament, wonach die schöne Philisterin Dalila dem herkulischen Samson das Haar abschneidet, womit er seine Kräfte verliert. Szene vor einem Bettvorhang, vor dem Bett ein Löwenfell, Symbol der Entmachtung des israelitischen "Herkules".
