Jh. 167,5 x 376 cm Sechsteiliger Stellschirm mit Winterlandschaft, rechts ein Schwarm von Wildgänsen über einem Gewässer im Nebel, darauf ein Boot bei Vollmond, auf der linken Hälfte verschneite Bäume und Häuser, Tusche auf Papier.       KANO TOUN MASUNOBU (1625 - 1694): BYAKUE KANNON. Ink and color on silk, ivory Jikusaki. Japan. PICTURE SIZE 91,5 x 33 CM; SCROLL LENGTH 172 CM Delicate painting of the Byukue Kannon, mounted on a scroll. Only a true master like Toun, a studio leader, are able to reach beyond the technical difficulty of this ink composition and lead our attention directly to the blessing presence of the gentle goddess surrounded by a jagged cliff environment. Byakue Kannon is a special form of the well-known East-Asian Boddhisattva Avalokiteshvara (in China, Guanyin). "Byaku-e" translates to "White clothing", hence, "White robed Kannon".
