(1802 Paprotzau/Schlesien - 1865 Berlin) nach Mit einem Panther kämpfende Amazone zu Pferde Metallguss (wohl Zinnlegierung), 19. Jh.; Fein ausgeführte, verkleinerte Reitergruppe nach der 1837-42 geschaffenen, monumentalen Bronze vor dem Alten Museum in Berlin. Diese wurde danach vielfach in kleineren Wiederholungen gegossen, auch im Park von Schloss Charlottenhof von König Friedrich Wilhelm IV. in Potsdam aufgestellt; 1865 schuf Kiss noch eine Marmorversion (im Königlichen Museum der Schönen Künste in Antwerpen). H. 43,3 cm. After August Kiss (1802 - 1855). Metal cast (probably pewter alloy), 19th century.

Bronze, brown patina Germany, designed 1839, later cast early 20th Century August Karl Eduard Kiss (1802-1865) - German sculptor Dimensions: 43 x 45 x 17 cm Good Condition Expressive bronze depicting a fighting Amazon on horse that is being attacked by a panther. For this work Kiss was awarded the 1st prize of the World Exhibition at the Crystal Palace in London in 1851 Estimate by Auctionata Expert: 2,800 Euro Kiss first created a version in marble for King Ludwig I. of Bavaria. The monumental version of this group, cast in bronze, is to be found in front of the Neues Museum Berlin. Condition: The bronze is in good condition. The horse is mounted to the naturalistically shaped base. The right arm of the Amazon is restored, as is the tail of the horse. Otherwise overall of very good impression. The bronze measures 43 cm in height, 45 cm in length and 17 cm in width. August Kiss (1802-1865) August Kiss was trained at the Ironworks in Paprotzan and the Royal Iron Foundry Gleiwitz. He further took lessons in chasing and drawing at the Academy under Leonhard Posch. From 1825 he worked as a student and later as assistant in the workshop of Daniel Rauch. In 1830 Kiss received a teaching position at the Königlichen Gewerbeinstitut in Berlin. He also repeatedly collaborated with his friend and colleague Karl Friedrich Schinkel. The marble version of the fighting Amazone sculpture, one of his masterpieces, is nowadays to be found in the Royal Museum of Fine Arts Antwerp. Moreover Kiss designed the tombs of Karl Friedrich Schinkel and Christian Daniel Rauch. Shipping costs excl. statutory VAT and plus 2,5% (+VAT) shipping insurance.
