Some of them depict geishas from the world-renowned number 9 brothel of Yokohama also known as the nectarine brothel. Dimensions: - the box: 27 x 36 cm - each photograph: 21,4 x 27,8 cm Notes: 1. Tamamura Kōzaburō (玉村 康三郎) (1856-1923) was a Japanese photographer. In 1874 he opened a photographic studio in Asakusa, Tokyo and subsequently moved to Yokohama in 1883, opening his most successful studio. He was an originator of the Yokohama shashin photographic scene. His studio was still operating in 1909. 2.           Photographer: Tamamura Kozaburo (1856 - 19?). Views of landscapes of Japan. 1880s. 50 delicately hand-colored albumen prints. Each circa 25,5 x 19 cm and 19 x 25,5 cm. Number and title in the negative in lower corners, each mounted to gilt-edged album board (slightly warped, some foxing, slightly soiled at start and end of album), bound in red and black lacquer album (some scuff marks, light chips in corners) with inlay genre scene on cover and painted ornamental insects on back, with gilt leather spine (rubbed). The views show Miyanoshita, Kiga, Kashiwabara, Yoshiwara, Uyeno/Tokyo, Nikko and Haruna. - Some prints faded, especially in edges, some surface scuffing, otherwise many in good to very condition.

          [TAMAMURA, KOZABURO] Album containing 114 photographs of Japan. Hand-colored albumen prints, mostly depicting scenes of street life, with handwritten captions underneath; images 5 1/2 x 4 inches (140 x 100 mm), in various formats. Edges of album bumped, prints mounted onto pages. The images are not signed in any way, but appear typical of the photographer's prodigious output. He was responsible for the mounted photos in Brinkley's Japan, and had a thriving trade selling to tourists.
