Pieter van Loon (1801-1873) 'Drawing album/travel report Grand tour', consisting of 90 drawn sheets and four separate drawings. This drawing album is a visual travelogue by Pieter van Loon during one of his 'Grand Tours'. In 1844 he traveled to Rome and Naples and surroundings (Capri, Castellamare, Torre del Greco and Terracina). Through his drawings, the viewer of this album is taken on a journey past tourist highlights in 19th-century Rome, such as the Ponte Rotto (Pons Aemilius), the cave with fountain of the nymph Egeria, the Roman Forum, Vatican City, Villa Borghese and Medici, Pompeii, the Piazza Bocca della Verità et cetera. In addition to detailed drawings, there are charming sketches of animals and people relaxing on squares in public spaces. Van Loon's friends feature twice in the album. He met his friend Cornelis Kruseman (1797-1857), who was nicknamed the Italian Kruseman because he frequently stayed in Italy, and another member of the Kruseman family, probably Jan Adam Kruseman (1804-1862), a cousin of Cornelis.
