    coppia di dipinti \“Concepiti in coppia, questi due dipinti sono preziosa testimonianza della produzione di arte sacra nell'Olanda riformata, oltre che importante acquisizione al catalogo di un talentuoso artista attivo ad Amsterdam nel secondo quarto del Seicento, Claes Cornelisz. Moeyaert.¶Artista di grande successo, egli produsse moltissimo, mantenendo sempre un livello di alta qualità.¶Il suo repertorio, costituito essenzialmente da ritratti e dipinti di storia, per lo più biblici, attesta altresì un percorso che, inizialmente aderente alla tendenza classicista, si volge poi al linguaggio rivoluzionario e innovativo del giovane Rembrandt. Ed è di questa fase che i due dipinti sono rappresentativi, dichiarando il loro stretto legame con alcune opere dallo stesso soggetto di Rembrandt, quali le due pale con L'Innalzamento della Croce (1632) e l'Ascensione di Cristo (1636), parte di una serie commissionata all'artista dal principe d'Orange nel 1628 e oggi conservate nell'Alte Pinakothek a Monaco.
