    Giovanni Paolo Pannini Capriccio architettonico con rovine e fontane Olio su tela cm 73x97 I due dipinti raffigurano rovine romane con fontane e scherzi d'acqua animati da piccole figurine. Sono due inediti e straordinari capolavori del grande pittore piacentino Giovanni Paolo Pannini (1692-1765). Il Pannini, che fu anche architetto, si recò a Roma nel 1717 e divenne autore di celebrate vedute dell'Urbe, dando origine ad un genere, quello delle rovine o vedute ideate, destinato ad un larghissimo successo europeo. In questi due dipinti interpreta fantasticamente testimonianze della Roma antica caratterizzate da una eccezionale spazialità e da tonalità intense e fortemente chiaroscurate. E' auspicabile che i due dipinti siano oggetto di ulteriori studi.

    Pen and brown ink and wash over black chalk. Drawn on the verso of a fragment of a letter. 76 by 143 mm. Provenance: Thomas Agnew & Sons Ltd. Dr. Ferdinando Arisi, who saw the drawing when it was at Agnews, dated it to the early part of Pannini's career and compared it with three similar sheets of figure studies in the Louvre (no.6716), in the Uffizi (no.5405) and at Marseilles.
