[Tarzan] Phil Paradise. Large scene study of "Tarzan's Home" in watercolor

        Est: $800 - $1,200

[ca. 1930s]. 21.5" x 16.5" watercolor on paper-board measuring 24.5" x 20". "Tarzans Home" on lower left margin, and "Sol Lesser Productions" on lower right margin. Painting signed by Phil Paradise and Charles Friendling in the lower right corner. The artwork is in very good condition though the blank margins of the board have heavy glue residue from previous matting. ****** Phil Paradise was a noted California watercolorist who did several studies for Tarzan films. Sol Lesser obtained the screen rights to the Edgar Rice Burroughs character of Tarzan in 1933 though the rights were later relinquished back to Burroughs. Burroughs and MGM found little success, and Sol Lesser returned to make Tarzan films again in 1943 which were produced for RKO. Charles Freindling (whose signature is also present) was a set-designer specializing in landscape design for films. The present scene painted by Phil Paradise depicts Tarzan moving through the jungle followed closely by his companion, "Cheetah." Provenance: From the collection of the Freindling family.
