John Bob Payne Sold at Auction Prices

b. 1883 - d. 1962

Tennessee-born artist John Bob Payne was inspired by his friends to start painting. Years before that, in 1891, at the age of eight, he had moved with his family to San Antonio, Texas, which would influence his art. By the time he was a teenager, Payne had already begun his art career. The landscapes and surrounding areas of San Antonio became his primary subject, making historic scenes of Texas and Mexico prominent in John Bob Payne paintings for sale.

Using oils to color pictures of rocky panoramas and cloud-spattered skies, natural tones are reoccurring features in John Bob Payne's paintings. During the 1950s, artist John Bob Payne became the president of Coppini Academy, where he continued to exhibit his paintings.
