Pittoni, Battista: Landschaftscapriccio mit römischen Ruinen und Lupa Romana

        Est: €3,000 - €3,500

zugeschrieben. - Please ask for condition reports for individual lots, as the condition is usually not mentioned in the catalogue.

Giovanni Battista Pittoni - Palatine Hill

        Est: €400 - €480

Praecipua aliquot Romanae Antiquitatis Ruinarum Monimenta ... - 1575 THE RUINS ON THE PALATINE HILL From a series of prints by Battista Pittony the Elder showing Roman ruins used in the treatise by Vincenzo Scamozzi 'Discorsi sopra le antichità di Roma' (Venice, 1582) based on Hieronymus Cock's series first published in 1551 (see Hollstein 22-47). Most of Pittoni's prints do not exactly replicate Cock's prints but are very close and clearly based on his designs. There are several drawings by Pittoni known made in preperation of these group of etchings. Pittoni was aan Itlaian artist who worked closely to the work of Cock, not only in design but also inthe same period as Cock published series of the Roman monuments untill 1561. He signed Batista.V.P.F.. bottom middle.
