    Frederick Spiegle (American, 1863-1942), "The Love Letter," color etching/aquatint on paper, signed in the plate and dated 1889 at lower left, marked along the top edge "Copyright 1889 by C. Klackner, 5 E. 17th St., N.Y.," measures 16 x 13 inches to the plate mark, overall in the frame it measures 25 x 21 inches. CONDITION: Good, frame with a few chips. Frederick M. Spiegle was a prolific artist, creating both etchings and oil illustrations of wildlife for various publications. Spiegle became a friend of President Theodore Roosevelt through his interest in big game hunting.
