Ein Blatt ohne den Text im Unterrand. Jeweils erschienen bei Frans van Wyngaerde, Antwerpen. – Verso ein Bll. mit Papierausdünnungen und einem winzigen Löchlein. Papier leicht angestaubt und mit wenigen Fleckchen, geringe Mängel an den Kanten. Ein Bl. an der rechten Kante verso mit einer Papierverstärkung. Verso mit Resten und Spuren von alter Montierung, ansonsten schöne Exemplare. Sehr selten!

(1617 - 1678) Crocifissione Olio su tela, cm 147X99 Il dipinto è indubbiamente influenzato dalle famose Crocifissioni realizzate da Anton van Dyck, quelle comunemente dette 'dei Cristi spiranti', la cui serie trova inizio nella 'Crocifissione con i Santi Francesco, Bernardo e il committente Francesco Orero', custodita nella Chiesa di San Michele di Pagana in Liguria. Ma è certo che su questo aspetto fu fondamentale l'apporto di Pietro Paolo Rubens che realizzò anch'esso simili composizioni e sappiamo che il nostro fu uno dei suoi ultimi allievi. Nel 1639 - 1640 Yperen è documentato come maestro nella gilda di San Luca ad Anversa, ma nel 1654 si trasferì a Magonza e di lì a Francoforte sul Meno, facendo tappa a Vienna. Le sue composizioni sono influenzate altresì da Theodor van Thulden e il dipinto in esame può essere paragonato alla 'Crocifissione' datata 1663 che fu battuta all'asta il 4 luglio 1996 presso Christie's South Kensington di Londra e realizzata tra il 1661 ed il 1663. JAN THOMAS VAN YPEREN, THE VIRGIN WITH CHILD, THE INFANT JOHN THE BAPTIST AND PUTTI THE VIRGIN WITH CHILD, THE INFANT JOHN THE BAPTIST AND PUTTI Jan Thomas van Yperen became a master in the Antwerp guild of St. Luke in 1639/40. Prior to this he probably worked in the studio of Peter Paul Rubens, where he edited and copied paintings by the master in his house following his death in 1640. Jan Thomas moved to Vienna around 1656/58, where he worked for Emperor Leopold I and Arch Duke Leopold Wilhelm. Alongside large scale religious history paintings, of which the present work forms a fine example, Jan Thomas also painted landscapes with mythological or pastoral figures. His close relationship to the work of Rubens was typical of his oeuvre.

Jan Thomas van Yperen, 1617 Yperen - 1678 Wien, zug. DIE BÜSSENDE MARIA MAGDALENA Öl auf Leinwand. 153,3 x 110 cm. Großformatiges Dreiviertelbildnis der Heiligen, in höfischer Kleidung nach links an einem Betpult sitzend, auf dem Schoß hält sie zwischen den gefalteten Händen einen Schädel. Ihr Blick ist mit tränenden Augen nach oben gerichtet, das Gesicht gerahmt von seitlich herabgeführtem, blond-braunem Haar, über dem Scheitel Andeutung einiger Nimbusstrahlen. An der linken Bildseite von dem dahinter hochziehenden, schwarzen bis dunkelgrünen Velum freigegeben. Ein Steinsockel mit darauf stehender Rundsäule als Symbol der herrschaftlichen Herkunft der Heiligen. Demgemäß ebenso aufwendig die stillebenhaft arrangierten Gegenstände, die rechts auf die Konsole gelegt sind, wie etwa der den rechten Bildrand hochziehende, hohe Prunkdeckelpokal mit bekrönender Ritterfigur oder die reiche Silberkette, mit roten Bändern durchflochten, mit großen, tropfenförmigen Perlenanhängern angereichert, die über die Tischkante herabhängt. Der linke Ellenbogen ist auf zwei Bücher gestützt, daneben ein zusammengefaltetes Andachtsbild am Fuß des Stellkreuzes, dessen Kreuzbalken sich vom dunklen Hintergrund kaum merklich abheben, während der Corpus Christi in Silber wirkungsvoll zur Geltung kommt. AN ALLEGORY OF PEACE AN ALLEGORY OF PEACE measurements note 34 by 25 cm. oil on copper PROVENANCE E. Michahelles, Hamburg, 20th Century. NOTE Jan de Maere has kindly suggested an alternative attribution to Guillaume Forchondt the Younger (1608(?)-1678). According to De Maere, Forchondt was influenced by Jan Thomas, who worked for the Forchondt family dealing concern. Small coppers such as this were easy to transport and were thus often painted for export, for example to Spain, where the Forchondts had a branch, and onward to the Spanish colonies in the New World.
