CHARLES VITAL-CORNU (Paris, 1851-1927). "Female Bust. Marble. Signed on the base. Exhibitions: "European sculpture in the 20th century", European Museum of Modern Art (MEAM), Barcelona, 2014. Size: 60 x 53 x 32 cm. The French sculptor Charles Vital Cornu developed an oeuvre ascribed to neo-classicism. He studied with Pils and Jouffroy. He was a member of the Society of French Artists from 1885. He received numerous awards: honourable mention in 1880 and 1881. Third class medal in 1882, travel grant in 1883 and second class medal in 1886. Bronze medal at the Universal Exhibition of 1889. Knight of the Legion of Honour in 1896, and silver medal at the Universal Exhibition of 1900.

Charles Vital-Cornu (1851-1927) "Réveil du Génie" Bronze à patine brune Signé sur la terrasse, cachet de fondeur "SOCIETE DES BRONZES DE PARIS" Assemblage à clés Epoque XIXème siècle Provenance: Succession française, oeuvre acquise auprés de l'artiste par la famillle et unique propiétaire. Dimensions: H: 99 ; L: 46 cm Charles Vital Cornu était un sculpteur français né à Paris le 17 avril 1851 et décédé dans la même ville le 29 juin 1927. Il a étudié à l'École des beaux-arts de Paris où il a commencé sa carrière de sculpteur en remportant une médaille d'or de première classe, suivie d'une mention honorable au Salon de 1889 pour son premier envoi, Le Ricochet. En 1882, il a reçu une médaille de 3e classe pour son œuvre en fonte de fer, Belles vendanges. Charles Vital Cornu a été sociétaire des Artistes français depuis 1885. Il a reçu plusieurs distinctions, notamment une médaille de bronze en 1889 et une médaille d'argent en 1900. Il a créé de nombreuses sculptures, dont "Le Réveil du Génie", une sculpture en bronze.

Sculpture of Le Capitaine Fracasse, the main character and title of Theophile Gautier's 1863 novel, with a plaque reading FRACASSE / Salon Des Beaux-Arts, bronze, France, nineteenth century. Captain Fracasso is an original work about a young, swashbuckling Baron under the reign of Louis XIII who flees to Paris with an acting troupe. Signed on the base Vital-Cornu with a French founders stamp. In good condition. Measures 26 inches in height.
