Öl auf Holz. Mittig auf dem Blatt signiert: ADVois f. 36,5 × 30 cm. Provenienz: - Auktion Stockholms Auktionsverket, Stockholm, 29.5.2008, Los 2454. - Privatsammlung. - Auktion Hampel, München, 23.3.2012, Los 187. - Europäische Sammlung. 1641 erlaubte das Shogunat den Niederlanden als einziges europäisches Land, mit Japan Handel zu betreiben. Der hier dargestellte sogenannte "Japonse rok" war ein in Japan speziell für niederländische Händler hergestelltes Kleidungsstück, welches häufig von hochrangigen Persönlichkeiten der Niederländischen Ostindien-Kompanie erworben wurde.

(Leida, 1632/1635 - 1680) Ritratto d'uomo con bicchiere Olio su tavola, cm 27X23 Allievo a Utrecht di Nikolaus Knüpfer, Ary tornò a Leida per studiare con Abraham van den Tempel, che visse lì tra il 1648 e il 1660. De Vois entrò a far parte della Gilda di Leida il 16 ottobre 1653, pagando le quote fino al 1677 e ne fu direttore negli anni 1662 ; 1665 e dal 1667 al 1668.

JUNGE FRAU IM LEHNSTUHL MIT ERHOBENEM RÖMERGLAS Öl auf Holz. 22 x 18 cm. Zuweisung an den Künstler durch beiliegende mehrseitige Dokumentation. Dargestellt ist eine junge Frau in der holländischen Feinmalerei, etwa eines Frans van Mieris. Sie sitzt mit halboffenem, Einblick gewährenden Mieder in einen Stuhl zurückgelehnt und hält in der rechten Hand ein grünes Römerglas hoch, auf das sie mit leichtem Lächeln blickt. Auf dem Tisch davor ein Tuch sowie eine bauchige grüne Weinflasche. Der dunkle Hintergrund mit Türrahmen sowie einem Bilderrahmen als Interieur zu erkennen. Die Werke des Malers wurden bereits im 19. Jahrhundert als selten angesehen und in den entsprechenden Auktionen (Christie‘s 1820, Christie and Manson 1845 etc.) geschätzt. Ferner gibt die ausführliche Begleitdokumentation Originaltexte ehemaliger Auktionshäuser wieder, zumeist aus dem 19. Jahrhundert. Letztlich wird ein Vergleichsbeispiel erwähnt, verauktioniert bei Sotheby‘s New York im Januar 2012, dort mit einigen geringen Abweichungen. In jedem Fall ist das Thema selbst typisch für die Werke von de Vois; nicht selten finden sich Halbbildnisse mit Weinglas, wie etwa „Ein Trinker“ in den Sammlungen der Alten Pinakothek München.   Provenienz: Gemäß beigegebener Dokumentation hat das Gemälde eine lange zurückreichende Provenienz aufzuweisen. Ersterwähnt bereits Anfang des 19. Jahrhunderts als „La Buveuse Hollandaise“ (PM Gault de Saint Martin 1818 und 1841). A multi-page report identifies de Vois as the painter of the work on offer for sale here. The subject itself is typical for works by de Vois; he frequently painted half-length portraits of figures holding wine glasses, such as Drunken Man held at the collections of the Alte Pinakothek, Munich. Provenance: According to the enclosed report the painting’s provenance goes back a long time. It is first mentioned at the beginning of the 19th century as La Buveuse Hollandaise [The female Dutch Drunkard] (PM Gault de Saint Martin 1818 and 1841).

PORTRAIT EINES HERRN IM APRICOTFARBENEN HAUSMANTEL Öl auf Eichenholz. 36 x 30 cm Verso alter Papieraufkleber mit zusätzlicher schriftlicher Künstlerbezeichnung. Dreiviertelbildnis, der Herr in lockerer Haltung an einen Pfeiler gelehnt. Den linken Ellbogen aufgelegt. In der linken Hand hält er zwischen den Fingern ein paar Blatt Papier, das die Signatur des Malers trägt, die rechte Hand in die Hüfte gestützt. Der Kopf nach rechts gewandt mit Blick in die Ferne, die Stirn leicht nachdenklich gerunzelt. Das Haar zeitgemäß modisch zu den Schultern fallend, mit ebenso der Mode entsprechendem Lippenbärtchen. Unter dem vorne geöffneten Mantel ein halblanger Brokatrock in silbrig-braunen Tönen, gebunden durch ein olivgrünes Band. Im Hintergrund gemalte Architektur, rechts Ausblick in abendliche Landschaft. Der zufriedene Raucher, auf der Tischkante monogrammiert:“AVS” (ligiert), Öl auf Leinwand, 25 x 21 cm, gerahmt, (Wo) Drs. Fred Meijer, Rijksbureau voor kunsthistorische Dokumentatie (RKD), Den Haag, hat das Gemälde nach Fotos als eigenhändiges Werk von Arie de Vois anerkannt (mündliche Mitteilung). Provenienz: Wiener Privatsammlung. Arie de Vois war Schüler von Nikolaus Knüpfer und A. van den Tempel. Seine meist kleinformatigen, lebendigen Darstellungen in miniaturartiger Feinmalerei, wie das vorliegende Gemälde, waren zu allen Zeiten von den Sammlern sehr geschätzt. Gemälde von seiner Hand befinden sich in den meisten großen Museen der Welt.

Fred Meijer, Rijksbureau voor kunsthistorische Dokumentatie (RKD), The Hague, identified the present work on the basis of photographs as autograph Arie de Vois (oral communication). Provenance: private collection, Vienna Arie de Vois was a pupil of Nikolaus Knüpfer and A. van den Tempel. His mostly small-scale, vivid representations executed in a delicate and minute style have been popular with collectors at all times. Paintings by his hand are preserved in major museums all over the world.
