Original Vintage Jungfraujoch Husky Dog Sled Poster by Eduard Weber c1946 Swiss Alps Bernese

      Est: $1,500 - $2,000

The spirit of adventure is alive in this exciting Swiss poster from c1946. A pack of husky sled dogs take a rest at one of the highest points in all of Europe, the Jungfraujoch. Created for the Jungrau Railroad, this poster is in Italian and was likely created for promotion in the regions of Switzerland where the language is spoken. The Jungfraujoch is an observation platform at the highest peak of the Alps and is often referred to as the "Top of Europe". In the late 1800s, there was fierce competition to see who would be able to build a railroad to reach this destination in the Bernese Alps first. The Jungfrau railroad route was finally completed in 1912, after 16 years of dangerous manual labor boring through mountains and glaciers. Dog sleds are one of the more ancient forms of transportation. First used by the Inuit people of northern Canada, the method expanded alongside trade routes into Scandinavia and then further into Europe. In modern times, dog sleds are a fun tourist adventure. To this day, you can catch a dog sled ride right off the train station in Jungfrau! There is very little known about the artist of this poster, Eduard Weber (1910-1990). This is an Original Vintage Poster. It is not a reproduction. This poster is conservation mounted, linen backed and in excellent condition. We guarantee the authenticity of all of our posters.
