        the doomed courtship of Princess Charlotte by the Prince of Orange, arranged against her will by her father, the Prince of Wales, later George IV, original hand-coloured etching, 250 x 350mm., identity of the characters inscribed in ink in a contemporary hand, lower left, slight surface dirt, [BM Satires 12282], W. Holland, 1814; with 3 other early 19th century social satires, Inviting a friend (whom you know to be particularly fond of a dish)...., from the Miseries of Life series by Isaac Cruickshank after G.M. Woodward, c.1805; The Return of a Sailing Party, by George Cruickshank after A. Crowquill, 1826; and A Storm, possibly by Joseph Kenny Meadows [none in BM Satires] (4) Princess Charlotte (1796-1819) was the only legitimate grandchild of George III, so she was next in line to the throne after George IV. Her father had sought to marry her to the Prince of Orange, later King of the Netherlands, but she broke the match, leading to years of conflict with her father until he eventually allowed her to marry Prince Leopold of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld, later King of Belgium. This was a happy marriage until her untimely death during the still-birth of their child. The race for uncles to marry and produce an heir was won by Edward, Duke of Kent, the father of Queen Victoria.

Mit Passepartout unter Glas in vergoldeter Profilholzleiste gerahmt. 57 x 68 cm. England 1806. Hübsche Karikatur mit Napoleon und anderen führenden Politikern seiner Zeit beim Kartenspiel auf einem farbigen Teppich und mit jeder der acht Figuren zugeordneter Sprechblase in englischer Sprache, in der die satirisch-politischen Statements dargebracht werden, wobei alle aneinander vorbeireden. Interessanter früher Vorläufer der dann in den Comics üblichen Darstellungsweise von Konversationen. - Herrlicher, farbfrischer Druck mit breitem Rand. Die Darstellung tadellos, im Rand etwas faltig und stockfleckig. Mit Passepartout unter Glas in vergoldeter Profilholzleiste gerahmt. - Beigegeben: Le Gazetter de Coblentz. Französische Karikatur von ähnlicher Brisanz. Kolorierter Kupferstich. Um 1800. - Etwas gebräunt, fleckig und mit kleinen Gebrauchsspuren. Nicht ausgerahmt. Farbfrisch und sehr dekorativ.

'Fishing for flats or a drag from the stock exchange' Depicts Charles James Fox standing on shallow steps leading from the stone gateway of the treasury to an ocean stretching to the horizon emerging from the waves washing the lower steps is a notice board 'Pool of Speculation' he is pulling up a drag-net containing men. A large paper on the net, indicates the bait 'peace within a fortnight' the stockbrokers are holding papers.
