Notes

Note: Sisters Emilie and Marie de Hoa LeBlanc were privileged daughters from an old Creole family that lived in the French Quarter. Both pioneers in the Newcomb Art program, they made yearly trips to study art, often in Europe, and traveled to many Asian countries. Marie¹s work as a designer and pottery worker was held in the highest esteem at Newcomb. Neal Auction Company set a record price for Newcomb Pottery on June 27, 2009 with a tall high glaze vase with a clematis design decorated by Marie de Hoa LeBlanc for $169,200. As this trove of work indicates, Emilie and Marie were talented painters who often depicted the Louisiana landscape and the places to which they traveled.
