Ivan F Summers (American, 1886-1964) 'Azaleas, Magnolia Gardens, Charleston, S.C.', oil on canvas, c 1926-7, signed lower right, titled en verso, artist plaque on frame, 10in x 12in E500-1000 Note: Magnolia Plantation is particularly renowned for their extensive varieties of Japanese camellias, as well as the thousand specimens of azaleas first imported from Southern India and planted by then-owner Reverend John Grimke Drayton in the 1840s This canvas may have been painted by Summers when he was teaching at the Charleston, South Carolina Art School (1926-1927).
