James Reid Lambdin (American, 1807-1889), "Portrait of an Alabama Gentleman", 1838, oil on canvas, signed, dated and inscribed "Painted by J.R. Lambdin, Mobile, Dec. 1838" en verso, 26 in. x 21 5/8 in., in a period giltwood frame Note: From January 1835 to December of 1838, Lambdin traveled in Alabama, painting portraits. Lambdin would later paint the portraits of such important political leaders as Senator Henry Clay, General Zachary Taylor, President William Henry Harrison and Senator Daniel Webster. Ref: E.
