Robert Wadsworth Grafton (American, 1876-1936, active New Orleans 1916-20), "Study of Reflections: New Basin Canal", oil on canvasboard, signed lower right, titled and inscribed en verso, sight 19 in. x 15 in.

Artists Robert Grafton and L.O. Griffith visited New Orleans in the winter of 1917, and were both fascinated by the scenic Old Basin Canal. In this painting "Study of Reflections" Grafton painted one of the many schooners that daily traversed the canal. In an impressionistic manner, he focused on the play of light and color as it reflects off the docked boat onto the water.
