      AN EBONY NETSUKE OF A FROG By Seiyodo Bunshojo (1764-1838), Iwami Province, early 19th century Signed Bunshojo chokoku. 6cm (2 3/8in) wide. 黒檀彫根付 蓮葉に蛙 銘「文章女彫刻」 19世紀前期 Provenance: Gordon Fox collection. Published: Katchen, N7, vol.2, p.183, no.K625. The frog seated atop a large folded lotus leaf, the arterial veins carved in relief and the elaborate minor veins carved in ukibori, the eyes inlaid in pale and dark horn.
