It is 26.8 cm tall. Together with the marble base, it is 32.5 cm tall. Gustav Heinrich Eberlein (1847-1926) Gustav Heinrich Eberlein first trained to be a goldsmith. From 1866, he attended the arts school in Nuremberg. In 1869, he received a scholarship in Berlin. Eberlein emerged politically around 1900, through his engagement against The Lex Heinze and for peace between France and Prussia. 16 of 20 works by him were removed from the great Berlin art exhibition of 1900. Eberlein left behind 900 portraits and small sculptures, paintings and writings. Many museums in Germany and abroad own works by Eberlein, including the Old National Gallery in Berlin. Gustav Heinrich Eberlein (1847-1926) Born in Spiekershausen, Gustav Heinrich Eberlein got his art education in the Kgl. Preussischen Akademie in Berlin. 1872 he became a solar in Rome and in 1893 a professor at the Berlin Academy. Eberlein is one of the most important artist in the Wilhelm era, in the Neobarock and the Berlin sculpture school. The artist died in Munich in 1926. Provenance: Max Grundig auction, Baden-Baden, 1985; since then South German private collection. Please note that the transport has to be executed by a specialised shipper. Please Note: German Text - 1847 Spiekershausen - 1926 Berlin. Verschämtes Mädchen. Carrara-Marmor. Auf gestuftem Sockel, eine schöne junge Frau sich leicht an einen Baumstumpf lehnend, die Hände gefaltet haltend und schüchtern den Blick senkend. Auf Sockel sign., bez. «ROM» und 1904 dat. H. (mit Sockel) 240, B. 60 cm. Nachdem sich Gustav Eberlein bereits Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts mehrfach mit der Figur der Psyche in seinen Skulpturen beschäftigt hatte, kehrte er nach 1900 zu dem Thema zurück. Allerdings verzichtete er nun auf die Darstellung der für die Psyche typischen Flügel und gab der Figur damit einen allgemeingültigen Charakter. Bei dieser beeindruckenden Ausführung der Figur handelt es sich um ein Unikat des Künstlers. Literatur: Ute Hoffmann, Gustav H.
