"The Burning Man" is considered an icon of modern sculpture in Austria. "Der brennende Mensch" was, after quite a few drawings and sculptural preparatory works, such as the bronze realized by Venturi Arte in Bologna, finally executed as a larger-than-life plaster figure in 1922/3. Already sinking to his knees, he stretches his arms towards the sky, seeking support there. The plaster sculpture, bronzed in a deep dark, was shown in 1925 at the International Exhibition of Decorative Arts in Paris, where it was awarded the "Grand Prix".
