Jan Honsa was one of Julius Mařák's youngest students; he was accepted to the landscape painting class at the Academy in Prague in 1893. In 1903 Honsa traveled to Paris and Normandy, and at the World's Art Fair in St. Louis in 1904 he received the bronze medal for his painting “Summer Afternoon”. His later travels led him to Dresden, Berlin, the Netherlands, Belgium, France and Munich. Honsa's work is based on continuous deep contact with his beloved nature; its artistic excellence raises it above mere regional significance and importantly contributed to the development of Czech landscape painting. His work is represented in the National Gallery in Prague. Technique: Oil on plywood, Signed: Lower right "J. Honsa"
