          Kiyonobu II, Torii. Schatten- und Biwa-Spiel der Geishas. 20 x 30,5 cm. Nachdruck eines japanischen Ukiyo-e Farbholzschnitts, links unten bezeichnet. Unter Passepartout 32,5 x 49 cm. Format ôban yoko-e. Mitte 20. Jahrhundert. -- In einem traditionellen japanischen Bambushaus, dessen filigrane Papierwände lediglich die schemenhaften Silhouetten der im Inneren musizierenden Geishas erahnen lassen, entfaltet sich eine malerische Szenerie mit Schattenspielen. Während drinnen sechs Figuren auf der Biwa spielen, scheint draußen auf der Veranda, etwas abseits von der Gruppe, ein Paar in ein Gespräch vertieft zu sein, unbemerkt von den anderen. Der Zugang zur Veranda führt über einen kleinen Wasserweg mit Hecke. – In guter Erhaltung. Auf Karton montiert. Passepartout mit montiertem Signaturschild.

          DESCRIPTION: Torii Kiyonobu I Painting of Tale of the Soga-Pulling the Belt. The drawing depicts Ichikawa Danjuro II, Otani Hiroji, and Arashi Wakano in the classic pulling the belt scene from a Soga play. The composition of the print are typical of early Torii style. The hand coloring employs both the oxidized cinnabar typical of early tan'e and the rose of slightly later benie, lending importance to this print as a rare transitional work. MEASUREMENT: 6-1/2" wide x 13-1/2" high, 15-1/2" wide x 21-1/2" high. CONDITION: No condition issues. MEG

          JAPANESE WOODBLOCK PRINT BY TORII KIYONOBU

          A reproduction woodblock print of a work by Japanese artist Torii Kiyonobu (1664-1729). Kiyonobu was best known for their prints done in the ukiyo-e style. The work was reprinted possibly in the 1940s and features a beautiful courtesan woman with an inscription and two seals or signatures. Dimensions are: matted 29 inches tall X 19 inches wide, 73.66 cm X 48.26 cm; sight size 23 1/2 inches tall X 13 1/2 inches wide, 59.69 cm X 34.29 cm. All measurements are approximate.
