Ostensibly, Lederer develops more and more pastose brush strokes with a spontaneous disposition.       Oil on canvas Signed and dated lower right 25,6 x 39,4 in Flat profiled silver frame Viktor Lederer was a master of intense and expressive painting, where he created sensual - almost physically tangible - nudes in one go. This is also the case with the present work, which dates from his best period, in which the artist worked directly on the canvas with palette knife and brush, thus achieving an immediacy that one can literally feel. The reclining nude shows a sunk-in but sublime person whose white cloth brings a playfulness with it. The red background and expressive colouring of the face heighten the effect of this masterly nude. Provenance: Private collection Spain

      The group of works of the so-called architectural images plays a special role in the oeuvre of Viktor Lederer; what tangible showed the commercial success of this body of work. Internalization is the premise of this work; which is a memorial of a lost time. Lederer is working against his usual conception with bated ductus and theatrical lighting with very limited color palettes. So he gives the building shell its own aura and causes vibrations of the surfaces.
