      ATTRIBUTED TO BERNARDINO BARBARELLI POCCETTI (FLORENCE 1548 - 1612) The Stoning of Saint Stephen pen and brown ink over red chalk, grey wash on paper 127 x 185 mm (5 x 7 1/3 in) PROVENANCE: Sale, Karl & Faber, Munich, 29 April 2016, Lot 103 Bernardino Poccetti together Cosimo Daddi explored the present subject in the Chapel’s frescoes of the Villa Medicea della Petraia between 1575 and 1630 (fig. 1). Another drawing of this subject was exhibited by Kate de Rothschild, London (Exhibition of Old Master Drawings, 1987, no. 15). The pen and brown ink over red chalk technique can be found on other lunette shaped working studies by Poccetti such as the one preparatory for the Santa Maria degli Angeli cloister and formerly attributed to Federico Zuccaro.
