MINIATURBILDNIS DER EKATERINA PAWLOWNA, GROSSFÜRSTIN VON RUSSLAND (1788-1819) 9,6 x 5,2 cm. (1222107) (11) Alois Gustav Rockstuhl, 1798 – 1877 MINIATURE PORTRAITS OF CATHERINE PAVLOVNA, GRAND DUCHESS OF RUSSIA (1788 - 1819) 9.6 x 5.2 cm. Gouache on ivory, signed. Signature of the miniature painter in Cyrillic “Professor A. Rockstuhl” lower left and date “Y1864”, suggesting that the miniatures were created posthumously, after Catherine´s death. In gilt oval frames. The Duchess descends from the house of Holstein-Gottorp-Romanov and was Queen of Württemberg between 1816 to 1819, after her husband´s accession to power on 30 October 1816. As the daughter of the Russian Tsar Paul (1754 - 1801) and his wife Maria Feodorovna, born Duchess of Württemberg (1759-1828). Provenance: According to the label on the reverse: “Aus dem Nachlass der Königin Olga von Württemperg, einer Tochter Nikolaus I” (Olga Nikolajevna Romanova (1822-1892) was the daughter of Tsar Nicholas I of Russia. Between 1846 to 1864 she was Crown Princess and since 1864 Queen of Württemberg. Export restrictions outside the EU.
