N. Roettiers filius in. et f. 1756 (lc); inscribed PARAT ULTIMA TERRA TRIUMPHOS around the upper edge and COL.FRANC./DE L'AMERIQUE/1757.  below the image Red chalk on paper, within a drawn tondo Octagonal sheet 11 1/2 x 9 5/8 inches (29.2 x 24.5 cm); image diameter 8 3/4 inches (22.3 cm) C.N. Roettiers became a member of the French Royal Academy in 1764 and worked at the Paris mint from 1753 into the 1770s. This design commemorates the French and Indian War (1754­1763) with England over colonies in North America. Although France lost Canada and disputed lands east of the Mississippi, she retained the vast Louisiana territory, which was purchased by the United States in 1803. C
