EDMUND GEORGE WARREN (BRITISH 1834-1909) In the New Forest Signed and dated 1861 (lower left) Watercolour and bodycolour heightened with gum arabic 25 x 33cm (9 3/4 x 13in) Warren was one of the first landscape artists of the time to be influenced by the Pre-Rapharelites ideas of truth to nature in his use of colour, meticulous observation of the subject, and attention to detail. His subjects were characterised by evocative and Idyllic depictions of the English countryside, woodlands and harvesting scenes. His work became very popular during the late 1850s to early 1860s.

Watercolor and bodycolors heightened with protein on light cardboard, laid to cardboard England, 1861 Edmund George Warren (1834-1909) English watercolor artist 19th-century Signed and dated lower left in ink Edmund G Warren 1861 Dimensions: 25 x 35.3 cm Gilded wooden frame: 47.2 x 54.7 cm Very good condition Provenance: Private collection, Northern Germany The deft drawn rural scene shows the villagers who meet on their way to church. The church is somewhat hidden behind tall trees. Condition: The watercolor has tiny little pinholes in the corners, in the upper left the sheet edges have minor discoloration. There is a very little spot with loss of colors in the white of the sky. The watercolor is mounted on a backing cardboard along the edges on the reverse. The gilded wooden frame is in a good condition. The cardboard measures 25 x 35.3 cm and the frame is 47.2 x 54.7 cm Edmund George Warren (1834-1909) The English watercolor artist E. G. Warren was born in London, the son and pupil of the watercolor artist Henry Warren (died 1879). He was a member of the Institut of the watercolorists for several years. The church is somewhat hidden behind tall trees. Condition: The watercolor has tiny little pinholes in the corners, in the upper left the sheet edges have minor discoloration. There is a very little spot with loss of colors in the white of the sky. The watercolor is mounted on a backing cardboard along the edges on the reverse. The gilded wooden frame is in a good condition. The cardboard measures 25 x 35.3 cm and the frame is 47.2 x 54.7 cm Edmund George Warren (1834-1909) The English watercolor artist E. G. Warren was born in London, the son and pupil of the watercolor artist Henry Warren (died 1879). He was a member of the Institut of the watercolorists for several years.
