Götterversammlung mit einem römischen Feldherrn vor Apollo. Feder in Grau, grau laviert. 7,9 x 11 cm (zum Achteck beschnitten). Um 1590. Konrad Oberhuber machte die Zuschreibung an Friedrich Sustris 1980 zur Zeit seiner Lehrtätigkeit in Harvard (handschriftl. Annotation auf dem Rahmenrückdeckel der vorhergehenden Losnummer). Thea Vignau-Wilberg, Fürstenfeldbruck, bestätigte die Autorschaft Friedrich Sustris nach Inaugenscheinname des Originals (mdl.) am 16. Sustris, Friedrich: Phaeton im Sonnenwagen

Phaeton im Sonnenwagen. Feder in Grau, grau laviert. 7,5 x 10,2 cm (zum Achteck beschnitten). Um 1590. Die überaus feine Zeichnung ist (wie auch die nachfolgende Nummer Los 6504) mit ihrem filigranen, etwas nervösen Strich ein charakteristisches Werks des bayerischen Hofkünstlers Friedrich Sustris. Die in ein ovales Medaillon eingeschriebene Kompositionen dürfte ein Entwurf für eine kunsthandwerkliche Arbeit sein. Man könnte an eine Silbertreibarbeit denken, wie sie sich etwa auf dem Deckel einer Dosen befunden hat, oder aber an ein graviertes Elfenbeintäfelchen, das, eingelassen in ein Holzpaneel, ein Möbel zierte. In der Kunstkammer des Kunsthistorischen Museums Wien wird ein solches Tableau aufbewahrt (s. Thea Vignau-Wilberg: In Europa zu Hause - Niederländer in München um 1600, Ausst. Kat. Sustris, Sadeler - Holy Family, St. Michael in Munich under Construction - 1589

A special print by Jan Sadeler after a design by Friedrich Sustris with the building of the Church of Saint Michael in Munich in the background. Sustris was also involved in the design itself of the church and it's decorations. The Virgin Mary tenderly cares for the Christ Child and the young John the Baptist. This tranquil scene is connected with a view of contemporary Munich in the right background by a scene of Joseph working as a carpenter. Angels carry the planks and beams he makes to the Church of Saint Michael, which is under construction. Sustris seems to have played a significant role in the design of this major building project, initiated by William V, Duke of Bavaria. He also contributed to its decoration.

Ottima impressione nell'unco stato su carta vergellata con filigrana lettere "OM in cerchio singolo sormontato da trifoglio".

Rudolf (L.2811b), his sale, London, Sotheby's, 4 July 1977, lot 88 (as Emilian School, late 16th Century) CATALOGUE NOTE From 1563 to 1567, Sustris was in Florence, where he worked as an assistant to Vasari and, like him, had a brilliant career as a court artist. In 1568, he was called to Augsburg by Anton Fugger, but later went to Landschut, where he served Wilhelm, the Bavarian crown prince. When Wilhelm became Duke, Sustris moved to Munich, and stayed there from 1580 until his death in 1599, supervising all artistic activity, from painting and sculpture to applied arts and garden design.
