      Nicolas De Launay etching; (French 1739-1792), After Nicolas Lafrensen (called Nicolas Laureince) (Swedish, 1737-1807). Titled LE BILLET DOUX. The love letter. French, Paris, 1778. Ornate interior with a man and two women, one woman being handed a letter by the man. The women are seated, with one reading a sheet of music, the other with a small musical instrument in her lap; a harp, a cello and harpsichord stand to the right and some books, music and a box lie on the floor next to them. There is a mantle and large mirror. The walls are decorated with roundels, sculptures, garlands and Corinthian pilasters. The image size is approximately 11.5" x 8", frame 17.5" x 11.5" (damaged frame), the etching has foxing and toning, etc. Weighs about 2.5 pounds.

He was second lieutenant in 1813 and took part in the campaign against Norway in 1814. He became lieutenant in 1819, chamberlain in 1823 and retired from military service in 1824.
